Diverse International Scientific Consortium for Research in Thought, Language and Communication in Psychosis (DISCOURSE) focusses on the multiple dimensions of language as an object of study in psychosis.
Standardising descriptions and measurement approaches in the assessment of thought, language and communication can greatly improve their clinical utility
Multidisciplinary collaborative solutions can enable harmonised data collection in clinical as well as non-clinical settings, open data sharing and cross-cultural validation.
Psycholinguistics focuses on how the human brain combines linguistic knowledge with non-linguistic knowledge to comprehend and produce messages.
Treating language disturbance in psychosis requires concerted efforts to select treatment targets and facilitate inclusion of patients with language deficits in clinical trials.
DISCOURSE in Psychosis is a global initiative aimed at studying the thought, language and communication disturbances in psychosis.
We have a particular focus on the multimodal nature of speech elicitation, studying the mechanisms underlying thought/language/communication disturbances, and their impacts on functioning.
DISCOURSE in Psychosis was formed in 2020 to promote international collaboration efforts towards these goals, to coordinate a consensus approach towards the assessment of thought/language/communication disturbances and to compile large datasets to answer key research questions.
